Young Israel of East Brunswick
YIEB Welcomes You
A hidden treasure in central New Jersey, the Young Israel of East Brunswick is home to 220 families enjoying the warm, friendly, “one shul” Orthodox community founded in the mid-1970s. YIEB is an established yet fast-growing community, and has welcomed approximately 25 new families in recent years from around the country!
Efrayim S. Unterman Named Rabbi of YIEB
The Young Israel of East Brunswick is excited to welcome Efrayim S. Unterman as Rabbi of its Orthodox congregation. Rabbi Unterman recently served as Associate Rabbi and Director of Education and Outreach at Congregation Torat Emet in Columbus, OH, where he taught, oversaw the youth department and educational platform, created outreach programs, and supported the community pastorally. Rabbi Unterman replaces Rabbi Jay Weinstein, who, along with his family, is moving to Israel this summer.
“From a competitive field of over 50 applicants, Rabbi Unterman stood out as the perfect blend of spirituality, humanity, and compassion our community was looking for,” said Louis Safren, President, and Jeffrey Chustckie, Past President. “We wish him and his family our utmost congratulations, and eagerly anticipate his religious and spiritual stewardship of our synagogue and community.”
Rabbi Unterman was raised in a range of communities spanning America, Canada, and Israel. He learned in Israel at Yeshivat Torat Shraga, and studied at Yeshiva University for his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Yeshiva College, his Masters in Jewish Education from the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration, and his Semikha (i.e., rabbinical ordination) from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, completing his studies in 2010. Rabbi Unterman and his wife, Rivkie, are parents to Refael (4 years old) and Chaya (1 year old).
“It is a remarkable privilege to join the wonderful East Brunswick community,” said Rabbi Unterman. “Rivkie and I know deep in our hearts that the Young Israel is the perfect new home for us.”
