Rabbi Yaakov and Aviva Wasser
Rabbi Yaakov Wasser, Inaugural Rabbi (retired), served as the spiritual leader and Rav of our community from its early days in 1979 through 2009. Together with his wife, Rebbetzin Aviva Wasser, they worked tirelessly on behalf of YIEB, and during their years of service the shul membership grew from about 20 families to over 200 families.
Rabbi Wasser learned in Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yisroel Meir HaCohen (Chofetz Chaim) in Israel and Forest Hills. He learned in the Kollel and is a musmach of Yeshivas Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. He has served on the Vaad Harabanim of Raritan Valley and has served as First Vice President of the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA). Rabbi Wasser continues to be a partner in the CPA firm of Wasser Brettler Klar & Lipstein in Manhattan. He specializes in helping non-profit institutions.
His wife, Rebbetzin Aviva Wasser, is a graduate of Teachers Institute for Women. She taught at Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva in Edison and was Vice Principal at Ilan High School in West Long Branch. She has been a recipient of the Torah Umesorah Teacher of the Year Award and the RPRY Teacher of the Year Award. She is currently an Educational Consultant and a Doctoral Fellow at The Azrieli School of Jewish Education at Yeshiva University.
Rabbi and Rebbetzin Wasser continue to live in East Brunswick, where they are often joined by their children and grandchildren.
