
Rabbi Jay Weinstein is the Mara D’Atra of the Young Israel of East Brunswick.
Rabbi Weinstein, his wife Sharon, and their two children, joined the Young Israel of East Brunswick community in July 2010 from Dallas, Texas, where Rabbi Weinstein had served since 2007 as Assistant Rabbi at Congregation Shaare Tefilla.
“Our shul has all the right ingredients to continue its growth and to become a dynamic place of tefilla (prayer), Jewish learning and community building,” Rabbi Weinstein said. “We appreciate the very warm welcome that has been extended to us both from families within the shul and beyond.”
Rabbi Weinstein is a native of Miami Beach, FL and received Semikhah (Ordination) from Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. He also obtained Semikhah from Rav Zalman Nechemiah Goldberg of Jerusalem. Rabbi Weinstein holds a B.A. in Accounting from Sy Syms School of Business and a Masters Degree in Special Education from Columbia University.
Rabbi Weinstein is also a graduate of Ner Le’Elef’s Outreach Training Program and Ohr Torah Stone’s Strauss-Amiel Institute for Rabbinic Training. He is currently participating in the Legacy Heritage Fund Distinguished Rabbinic Fellowship through Yeshiva University’s Center for the Jewish Future. Prior to his role in Dallas, Rabbi Weinstein served as the Shabbat Rabbi at Stern College.
In November 2010, the Young Israel of East Brunswick celebrated the official installation of Rabbi Weinstein at a gathering presided over by Yeshiva University President Richard M. Joel, and attended by numerous community Rabbis and Torah scholars.
