From a modest beginning in 1975 to its substantial community presence today, the Young Israel of East Brunswick's history is one of dedication and determination to fulfill the ever-growing needs of its growing membership.

 

MILESTONES

June 1975 Founded as a full chapter of the National Council of Young Israel to serve the growing Orthodox community in Central New Jersey. The total membership was six families.

August 1979 - Rabbi Yaakov Wasser hired as Spiritual Leader. Membership 20 families.

February 1982 - Purchased current 5.1-acre site at 193 Dunhams Corner Road. Membership 35 families.

1983-88 - Experienced rapid growth in membership and services to community - NCSY Chapter and local Outreach programs.

June 1988 - The Building Committee was established, and engaged James Gaspari as architect and Bartolone & Associates as engineers.

May 1989 - Congregation voted to fund construction of a $1.7 million synagogue complex, to include substantial educational and social hall facilities and a Mikvah.

July 1989 - Established Nursery School Program and Summer Day Camp.

October 1989 - Establishment of the community Eruv.

August 1990 - Current synagogue complex ratified by membership.

October 1990 - Fundraising drive yields in excess of $1 million in pledges, with the vast majority raised internally.

March 1992 - Groundbreaking Ceremony.

September 1993-Rosh Hashanah - First prayers in the new synagogue. Membership 110 families.

November 14, 1993 - Synagogue Complex Dedication.

January 1999 - Membership 150+ families.

January 2004 -  Membership 200+ families.

March 2005 -  Completion of Youth Center construction.

August 2010 - Rabbi Jay Weinstein hired as full time Rabbi
