Here at the Young Israel of East Brunswick, teaching our children to love learning, for the sake of learning,
is one of our top priorities. It is this love of learning, once instilled in our children, that will keep them coming
back to Torah as they move on in their own lives. YIEB offers a number of programs that encourage our children (and
their parents), to learn:
On Saturday nights, October through April, our synagogue sponsors a Mishmar learning program. Mothers, fathers, sons and daughters develop
their own family learning program. Each family chooses the topic they wish to study. More than 50 children and 25 parents participate in the program. Pizza and a raffle complement an evening of
learning, bonding, and fun.
On Saturday afternoons, September through June, a group of NCSY high school students meet monthly for a shiur
(class) given by college students from our community. Each months shiur focuses on a different aspect of improving
middot or personal character. Also, Rebbetzin Aviva Wasser offers a Shabbat afternoon class for teenage girls in
the congregation.
We are constantly updating our learning programs based on a combination of feedback from our children and incorporating the
topics that seem to be in the forefront of current events.
